It is clear that life as we know it is unraveling – and it is a good thing. It has been needed on many fronts – politically, socially, racially, ethically, and in public health. As we watch the principles that our country was founded on: liberty, justice, equality among all people, and governance for the public good, be trampled on with divisiveness that opposes the integrity of those values, it calls on us to consider our role. It requires us to use new skills

I am hearing it from everyone I am around – the political chaos, public unrest and health crisis is leaving people exhausted, scared, and insecure. The level playing field of our lives is being upended, and while we may be glad to see the collapse of things that are corrupt and morally wrong, it is still in process and the outcome is very much uncertain. It is unnerving.

We need to use new skills to move forward. As Einstein said, “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them”. Here are some thoughts on what is needed, see if these speak to you.

Use Your Intuition Like A Moral Compass

We are hard wired to know what is right and what we need in any situation. How adept are you at reading your intuition,  the language of your internal guidance system? Your mind, body/feelings and spirit send and receive signals constantly that alert us when we are on the right path.

Rather than listen to pundits who divide us, get out of the polarizing dialog and listen to your own instinctive reactions. Meditate, be mindful to access your inner wisdom. What do you know is truth, what do you think is needed? Finding you own truth is the necessary starting point of change.

Acknowledge Your Emotions

Our world has been dominated by left brain thinking to the exclusion of the more intuitive, emotional, and creative right side. Yet our emotions often tell us the truth – about what we are thinking and how we are reacting to what is happening. Don’t be scared and plow them under or cover them up. They will surface later in health issues or masked in too much alcohol/drugs/pills, food, sex, spending, obsessions.  Don’t ignore them.

Instead, let your emotions inform you. They are your truth – feel them, let them pass through and honor their message. If you are hurting right now –  you are not alone. Find someone to share them with. We need to go deeper to hear the message and stop covering up and skimming the surface.

Get Clear – Change is Good – Get Involved

Now personalize what this means for you. What change do you think is needed? How does this translate to you personally and professionally? For me, I had intentionally stayed clear of political advocacy but given we are in a spiritual crisis, I am finding my voice and learning to use it. We have to because silence = consent.

If you want change than you must be part of it. How can you get involved? Provide support by showing up, speaking up, donating, volunteering, posting, writing… and most of all voting. Did you get an absentee ballot – send it in! When you act on your instincts and feelings, your whole body and soul will breath a sigh of relief. You literally release tension when you act on your feelings in a meaningful way.

Notice the unraveling that is going on around you and allow it to speak to you and show you how you can respond in new ways. Pay attention to your instinctive reactions – let you mind, body/feelings and soul teach you. Pay attention to your emotions and trust them to guide you. Then let this information inform you on what wants to happen next in your life. You will be carving a new path that responds with more honesty and integrity. We need you.
