I’m just coming down from a week of doing what lifts me up. I’ll definitely be doing it more! It’s made me realize that sometimes our work and our fun can dove-tail and be the same, sometimes they take you in different directions. But when the underlying principles of both are grounded in the same bed-rock there is nothing but joy. What’s at the heart of that? Let me explore that with you.
Over the last week, my husband and I hosted musician friends from Senegal and Ghana for a series of concerts with our non-profit. The intent was to show that we are more alike than different and that there is much we can learn from one another. It was a joyous uplifting experience for us, for them and all the people who attended. As usual, we are left humbled by the experience.
So what is it that gave us a lift and how does that fit in with the rest of life? Given that this is not our primary work, but takes a lot of hard work, why does this seem so important to who we are and what we do?
Collaboration as a Value
We have this desire to increase collaboration between cultures. It seems crucial in this time of increased judgement and paranoia about others who are different from us that we show the flip side of this. My experience and belief is that when we increase understanding, we come closer together.
In my primary work, I know that collaboration, not competition, brings far more interesting and often satisfying results. In this situation, watching three different cultures come together for a series of shows was challenging and fun. The results brought super charged high energy and excitement and a product that was new and exceptional. Everyone who saw it was lifted too.
In collaboration the results are always greater than the sum of the parts.
The Mutual Benefit Of Lifting Up Other’s Talents
I love how this came together. It was evidence of higher order principles at work in our life. I randomly met a Senegalese musician (Alioune Guisse – see picture) as my Uber driver at a conference. I pushed the wrong button and got a big Lincoln instead of the regular car and Alioune was playing this beautiful African music. When I asked him who’s it was, he said “mine”. Really? That started a long conversation about our interests and goals, which of course, no accident here, were similar. We agreed we needed to collaborate. We never forgot that conversation, stayed in touch and two years later he was here doing this concert series with us!
This is one of the aspects of the Law of Vibration. My interests and his drew us together. His amazing talent inspired our local musicians and friends from Ghana, who joined for this event. Everyone was lifted up by the exchange. By highlighting one another’s gifts, everyone grew and expanded their repertoire, and their understanding of another culture. The audience was lifted up too. Energy was exchanged, matched and expanded.
You naturally develop and expand your understanding of yourself and others when you notice and highlight one another’s talents.
Bringing Joy Expands Yours
Let me continue with the impact of the Law of Vibration in this situation. When you do something you enjoy, you are sending it outward, affecting the energetic field of those around you. It will by nature, raise the vibration of those around you.
When your work is what you love and brings joy, it’s easy to maintain the motivation to continue. The expansion of that joy makes it contagious to others. When your other interests do the same thing, you are literally doubling down on your output of joy. It keeps life wonderfully interesting and fun.
Follow your bliss and notice how others around you begin to match your good feeling state.
Making Change Through Love
At the heart of this project is the love we feel for the people we have met from other countries. They have inspired and challenged our view of life and made us better people. When we invite them here, our friends and audiences are able to have the same experience. They are moved by the exchange of love. The flow is evident!
Watching everyone’s response tells us that people are loving this experience. It’s a feel-good process that leaves everyone a little bit changed. What a gift it is to be part of a change process. We all can do this – pick your spot and give a little love.
Share your love and watch how it expands and changes everything around you.
I’m doing what gives me a lift – bringing people from other countries here for cultural exchange. The creativity it inspires to bring our events to a new level is evident in the collaborative process. When other’s talents are lifted up, you lift yourself up in the process. The joy expands you and others, creating effortless and joyous change. When this kind of work brings so many good experiences, you bet I’ll be doing it more.
